For Harriet, love was worth the wait!

You might remember Harriet. She was rescued last year after wandering into a Septa maintenance building to greet the mechanics, and spent months looking for a home in spite of her friendly and loving personality. Everyone who knew her was baffled that she kept getting passed over — but as it turned out, she was just waiting for Bonnie and Rick! They’d been lonely for a dog since saying goodbye to their last pup, and had learned about PAWS a few months earlier when their daughter and son-in-law adopted another PAWS dog, long-stay celebrity Flowerpot!

From the moment they applied, it was clear Harriet was meant to join their family:”You could read my application and think we’re too old to adopt, but Harriet seems like a dog that would love our lifestyle,” wrote Bonnie, “We have an acre property and a screened in porch where we are anxious to start every morning as soon as the weather breaks. Harriet may have never seen so much grass — she would be very content in our rural area.” They fell for Harriet — now named Hattie – as soon as they met her, and the rest is history!

“She has definitely settled into a relaxed lifestyle, and we just got a fence last week,” shares Bonnie, “Now she doesn’t need a leash and runs after her balls and really loves the freedom to run in the yard. We are retirement age and slowing down. Hattie is the most lovable dog we ever had and so laid back, she really cuddles with whoever will sit the longest. She thinks she is a lap dog, she has no idea how big she is when she tries to squeeze into the smallest space left on a chair or sofa – and always succeeds! She has changed our lives forever!”
