Special pets, special bond: Flipper and Blossom
Flipper reminds us that no matter how different we may seem, love is what truly connects us! This special cat arrived at PAWS with a condition that kept him from being able to bend his back legs. He often dragged his legs behind him to get around and was still learning to stand and walk on them, but with his loving and playful spirit, we knew he was going places. Flipper found the special home he was searching for with the Preston family, and became an integral part of their lives. A few years later, his story took another beautiful turn when they welcomed home his new sister, Blossom. She had also been living with a leg deformity that required surgery, and it wasn’t long before they formed a bond as special as they are. Here’s what their family shared!
“He is such a social guy, loves to always be around us, greets us at the door when we come home and loves to meet any guests we have. He loves going for walks in the hallway, and getting pets from neighbors, especially pretty girls. Flipper is in fact a huge flirt. He loves women. He will put on a show for the ladies and turn on the charm, showing off his little legs and approach them for pets and give head butts.
“We also think he’s a bit of a protector and feels responsible for us. He sleeps at the end of our bed and always likes to make sure we are accounted for and investigates any noises coming from outside. We always say that we are Flipper’s kittens…Which leads us to Blossom.”
“We thought Flipper being so social would love the company of another cat, but it couldn’t be any cat because we didn’t want him to feel like he was being left in the dust by a cat with normal legs. I had followed [Instagram influencer] Beth Stern for years on instagram, and when she posted photos of Blossom and I showed Billy, we knew she was the one for Flipper — and thankfully Beth thought so too.
“We tried to introduce them slowly but Blossom had other plans, and only after 2-3 days days of the occasional hiss, they became besties. They love to play together and Flipper is so patient with her kitten spunk. We often catch him grooming her and snoozing together.
“Blossom loves Flipper and always runs up to him giving him a nuzzle and “tail hugs.” A very sweet moment between the two was at the vet this fall, Flipper was so upset to be at the vet and Blossom insisted on staying right by his side to support him. We feel so lucky to have these two very special cats and having the best time watching their relationship grow.”
Blossom and Flipper’s special bond proves that the love we share is what truly makes us whole. We are so grateful to the Preston family for sharing their story and welcoming home these very special cats! Be sure to follow their adventures instagram at @blossomandflipper.
