Quick Facts about PAWS

  • PAWS is Philadelphia’s largest no-kill shelter. We rescue dogs and cats from shelters where they are in danger of being killed, give them the care they need, and find them loving homes. Every time we send an animal home, it makes room for another one who has nowhere else to go.

  • PAWS is Philadelphia’s largest provider of low-cost spay/neuter and basic veterinary care. Our two clinics prevent pets from entering shelters in the first place by helping struggling pet owners care for and keep them, and stopping them from having unwanted litters.

  • PAWS saves and serves more than 32,000 dogs and cats every year through our rescue efforts and clinical services. We operate three facilities, each open seven days a week.

  • In the 10 years since we began, the city’s “save rate” for homeless pets has increased from 11% to nearly 80%. And fewer pets are entering city shelters than ever before.

  • PAWS is working to make Philadelphia a no-kill city, where every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home.

  • PAWS is 100% donor-funded, and we spend $0.91 of every dollar directly on the animals.

  • PAWS began as a group of dedicated volunteers who wanted to make a difference. Today, we have more than 50 incredible staff members, and volunteers continue to be essential to every aspect of our daily lifesaving operations.

  • “They won’t make it without you.” Our ability to rescue and care for the animals who need us most depends entirely on the number of people who step forward to help by adopting, fostering, donating, and volunteering.
