Northeast Adoption Center & Low-Cost Clinic

PAWS’ Northeast Clinic is open 5-6 days a week for vet appointments, vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgery. For more information about scheduling, services, and prices, please see below.

Our Northeast Adoption Center is temporarily closed. PAWS’ Old City Adoption Center is open for cat adoptions. Dog adoptions take place by appointment at our Grays Ferry location or through foster homes. Please click here for more information about adopting and to see animals currently looking for loving homes.

Clinic Services: Frequently Asked Questions

?

Are the clinic services offered by PAWS right for me?

PAWS’ low-cost Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinics serve pet owners who have difficulty affording or lack access to basic veterinary care, and rescue organizations that need affordable services to carry out their lifesaving work. While PAWS does not have income restrictions, we do ask that if you are able to afford care at a full-service veterinarian’s office you do so, so that we can prioritize care for the pets who would not otherwise get treated.

?

Can PAWS be my primary veterinarian?

PAWS is not a full-service veterinary practice, and we are not able to provide overnight care. If you are able to afford it, we recommend that you establish a relationship with a full-service veterinarian. If not, we will be happy to serve you and your pet to the best of our ability.

?

Does PAWS offer payment plans?

We keep our prices as low as possible in order to serve the greatest number of pet owners who cannot afford to go elsewhere. We do not offer payment plans or Care Credit. PAWS accepts cash, debit, or credit cards. Payment is due at the time services are provided.

?

How should I prepare to bring my pet to PAWS?

All pets must be on a leash or in a carrier. Dogs should be wearing a well fitted collar or harness. If your puppy has not had all of its shots, please carry them in your arms or in a carrier; walking on the ground exposes them to disease they are not yet immune to. Your cat must be in a carrier for their own safety, even if they don’t mind being carried in your arms (there may be dogs in our lobby that are not cat-friendly!). If you do not have a carrier, you can use a box with air holes; we also sell cat carriers if you would like to purchase one.

?

I have a spay/neuter appointment for my pet. What instructions should I follow and what will the day of surgery be like?

Please read these instructions for important things to keep in mind before surgery, the day of, and afterward.

?

Should I spay or neuter my pet?

?

What flea treatment and heartworm preventative is available at PAWS?

PAWS carries various brands of topical flea prevention that are available over the counter. Oral flea preventative is available for purchase with a prescription from our veterinarian. We recommend all dogs and cats be kept on your preferred form of flea prevention year round to lower the risk of infestation.

Heartworm preventative requires a yearly exam and prescription by one of our veterinarians. Dogs should ideally be kept on heartworm preventative year-round; dogs that are only on heartworm preventative during the warmer months will need a test every year before restarting their medication in the spring. Puppies under 6 months of age can be started on preventatives without a test.

?

Should I bring anything to my pet’s appointment?

If you have any previous medical records for your pet, including vaccination records, emergency room visits, and routine care visits, please bring them to your appointment.

If your pet is vomiting, has diarrhea, or any other intestinal issues, please bring a stool sample with you. To obtain a stool sample, use a small plastic bag to pick up a small piece of your animal’s poop, tie it up, and place the bag in the refrigerator until your appointment.

About PAWS Northeast

Located at the corner of Grant and Bustleton Avenues, PAWS’ Northeast adoption center enables us to rescue and find loving homes for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs and cats. Our adjacent clinic provides affordable veterinary care to help pet owners care for and keep their cherished pets, rather than face surrendering them to shelters, and prevents the birth of countless unwanted litters.

PAWS’ Northeast facility features Mural Arts Program’s “Forever Home,” a celebration of our community’s work to save pets in need.

All our efforts – to prevent pet homelessness and save the ones who need rescuing – lead us closer to our ultimate goal of making Philadelphia a no-kill city.
