Paws & Claws Fund Helps Neediest Pets

Philadelphia Flyer Braydon Coburn and his wife Nadine launched the Paws & Claws Fund in March 2011 to provide free veterinary care at PAWS’ Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic to the pets and pet owners who need it most.

The fund, which the Coburns kicked off with a $10,000 donation, enables low-income pet owners to obtain free spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and treatment for basic illnesses for their cats and dogs. In doing so, it prevents the birth of unwanted litters, slows the flow of animals into city shelters, and enables pets to remain as cherished family members rather than be abandoned due to their owners’ inability to afford care for them.

“As long-standing PAWS supporters and adopters, we are incredibly excited to start this fund that will help so many pet owners with no place else to go,” the Coburns said. “Making vet care available to the animals who need it most is such an important part of reducing the homeless pet population in Philadelphia. We urge pet lovers and hockey fans everywhere to join us by making a donation to the Paws & Claws Fund so that PAWS can continue helping as many animals as possible.

“Our relationship with Braydon and Nadine, as well as with the entire Flyers organization, has been making good things happen for Philadelphia’s animals for quite some time,” says PAWS Executive Director Melissa Levy. “This major step the Coburns have taken demonstrates their incredible commitment to our lifesaving mission and their understanding of how much more there is to be done. We are so grateful for their support and we look forward to continuing to make a difference together for a long time to come.”

On behalf of the animals, a huge thank you to Braydon and Nadine for bringing us one step closer to making Philadelphia a place where every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home!
