Chefs Dinner for PAWS

Presented by Joan and Bernard Spain

Back for its sixth year, the much-anticipated annual Chefs’ Dinner for PAWS will be held Monday, June 28th, 2010 at the historic Union League of Philadelphia. Beginning at 6 p.m., the culinary extravaganza will take guests on a tour of the League from cocktails on the first floor to chef pods spanning the entire second floor for an evening of fantastic food, cool music, great wine and over-the-top settings—all to benefit Philadelphia’s homeless animals.

The high-style event will showcase the talents of more than 40 of the region’s top chefs from celebrated dining destinations (see full list below). Each chef will present an intimate, unique and unforgettable experience for their table of 12 guests, who will have the opportunity to meet-and-greet the participating culinary masters while tasting decadent creations prepared personally for them. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour, featuring hors d’oeuvres from six area restaurants and live jazz music by recording artist Jessy Kyle. Guests will then join their chef tables for a four-course gourmet dinner with wine pairings. The evening’s festivities come to a close with a dessert and cordial lounge where guests can meet all of the celebrity chefs and recount their culinary experiences.

About PAWS:
PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia’s largest rescue organization and only no-kill shelter, and is working to make the city a place in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year. In 2009, PAWS saved nearly 2,800 homeless cats and dogs.

PAWS rescues animals at the City’s animal control shelter that are in the greatest danger of being euthanized and places them either up for adoption or into temporary foster homes until they are old enough or healthy enough to be adopted. PAWS animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped before adoption. Our efforts are based out of our boutique-style adoption center in the Old City section of Philadelphia. It is open seven days a week and houses cats and dogs looking for loving homes.

To expand our ability to save Philadelphia’s homeless pets, to curb the number of stray and unwanted animals born each year, and to reduce the number of animals surrendered to shelters, PAWS will open a high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter and wellness clinic in March 2010. In addition to sterilization, this facility will also provide low-cost basic veterinary care, and will offer additional space for rescued animals. The clinic is aimed at helping pet owners provide proper basic care for their pets, assisting rescue organizations with their lifesaving work by providing affordable sterilization and veterinary care, and reducing the homeless animal population by preventing the birth of unwanted litters and reducing the number of animals surrendered to shelters by their owners due to an inability to care for them. The facility will also dramatically expand PAWS’ ability to rescue more animals from the city’s animal control shelter that would otherwise be killed.
